The Ask:
Create merchandise centered around the client's poetry. Focusing on thought-provoking lines, high-impact imagery, and simple execution.
Making sure we keep costs low in terms of printing and processes.
The Work:
With such a prolific artist, it took time to boil down the most important lines to her.
With the selected lines the drafts above were crafted, I wanted the poetry to speak for itself and be able to bounce off of the art, not be overtaken.
Thin, black lines based on caligraphy each design builds upon the written word instead of suffocating it. Using earth-toned garments gives us all the high-impact color we need.
I took inspiration from her home country of Malawi, furniture from her family, and the energy she gives off.
